David is the Vice President of Innovation and Venture at AvalonBay, where he drives NOI by incubating new products and programs, managing a strategic investment portfolio, and chairing the Innovation Committee.
David's background spans architecture, investment, and operations. He has a proven track record in partnerships, business building, theme development, sourcing, investments, and portfolio management. Prior to joining AvalonBay, David’s real estate experience included roles at a real estate venture-backed startup and a global alternative asset management firm, where he developed relationships with operators, structured investments, and directed investment strategy.
As an investor in real estate and technology, David has fostered relationships with operators, structured investments, oversaw investment strategies, and expanded the capital base. As an operator, he has built and launched new business lines, held P&L responsibility, and established key infrastructure to support the business's scaling. Formerly an architect, David worked on some of the first LEED-certified multifamily projects.
David frequently speaks at conferences for real estate, venture capital, family offices, private wealth, and private equity executives. He holds an M.Arch from the University of Pennsylvania with a Certificate in Real Estate Design and Development and a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
